Full gas into the terrain with tamed diopters
Everyone who grips the handlebars tightly in his hands and flies around the world with the power of his own muscles, strives for his personal victory. Sometimes one gets an Olympic medal for it, and other times "only" a great feeling of not stopping. These personal challenges include making sure we've given our best, and that's not just about training and fitness, but also equipment, which can play a significant role.
Whatever our challenge, we are always on the move and must be able to accurately assess the situation. We have a minimum of time and we have to see pretty clearly what is happening around us. You just need to put on the right glasses and make sure that the diopters don't hold us back.
Sports glasses are a highly sought-after helper, and there are a number of options for how we can set up our own optical solution during sports so that our eye defect does not hinder us.
"For athletes, we basically have four basic options for enjoying sharp, comfortable views during sports. Each of them is based on slightly different properties, and before we reach for a specific solution, it is worthwhile to imagine what we will use the glasses for," points out Simon Friedrich, product manager of the Czech brand R2.
Optical clip
The most advantageous and cheapest solution preserves the advantages of the glasses by attaching the clip to the original lens. It can be made of light plastic or thin metal that does not obstruct the field of vision.
Optical reduction
Inserts directly into the frame and stands out for its undistorted image and low weight. There are both light plastic and thin durable metal. The advantage is that the reduction can be changed to sun lenses.
Bifocal lenses
Small dioptric field in the lower part of the lens of sports glasses for close focus needs, such as for reading or navigation in maps or on the phone.
Direct grinding
If you like the frame of the glasses enough that you want to use it as prescription glasses, there is an option to grind the lens directly into the frame of the sports glasses. It is an ideal choice for athletes, with this solution the field of vision is not restricted and it is fully adapted to the athlete.
An eye defect does not matter if everything is adjusted correctly
When choosing your specific, optimal solution, do not forget the following parameters. In the first place is the protection of the eyes, because the pitfalls from which it is worth protecting the eyes are a whole range from dust and various impurities to wind and treacherous UV radiation.
To maximize your cycling experience, don't forget the shape of your glasses. These should be properly adapted to the shape of the face and nose. Make sure they are comfortable and fit well on your face without shifting or sliding easily.
The durability of the material from which the sports glasses are made also plays an important role. On the bike, you will appreciate the maximum peripheral vision and overview that you can enjoy thanks to the wide field of vision.
Do not forget that any optical solution can only fulfill its tasks when your eyes are measured correctly and the dioptric lens is precisely adjusted to your refractive error. If you choose an optical solution that includes a sun lens, a great advantage is the choice of photochromic lens design technology that darkens and lightens according to lighting conditions.
Details like making sure your new sports glasses are compatible with your bike helmet can play a key role.
